Prepay GitHub usage and make spend way more predictable

GitHub Pre-Purchase Plans are now available, giving customers a way to pre-commit units for eligible GitHub services over 12 months. The eligible services include Copilot, Actions, Codespaces, and AI Credits.

This is the most directly FinOps-relevant Microsoft update in the set because it turns variable consumption into a predictable prepaid budget. Microsoft says the plans can deliver built-in savings of up to about 15%, which makes planning easier and can help reduce surprise spend.

Right-size Azure Savings Plans using real hourly usage

Microsoft published a FinOps how-to for Azure Savings Plans that shows how to pull hourly PAYG usage and Benefit Recommendations from the Cost Management API. The goal is to make commitment decisions based on real hourly demand patterns.

That’s useful for teams trying to defend their savings plan choices with data. Instead of guessing at usage, you can look at hourly patterns and make more grounded decisions about commitment size.

Clean up Azure log analysis with summary rules

Azure Log Analytics Summary Rules are now generally available. Microsoft says the feature aggregates high-volume log data at a defined cadence into summarized tables.

This can improve query performance and reduce storage and query costs for high-volume telemetry. That makes it a very relevant update for teams dealing with noisy logs and expensive analysis patterns.
