BigQuery and Cloud SQL got the most useful efficiency boosts

BigQuery now supports unit tests for pipelines, letting teams validate SQL transformation logic against mock datasets before deployment. That can reduce rework and avoid unnecessary compute from faulty or inefficient pipelines.

Google Cloud SQL automatically enables point-in-time recovery after DR switchover and failover, so recovery operations complete faster. That reduces recovery time and operational friction.

Google Cloud SQL also expanded the C4 machine series across Cloud SQL for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server Enterprise Plus in eight regions. The series is positioned for better price-performance on high-demand workloads.

Better visibility tools make it easier to spot waste

Google Cloud introduced improved troubleshooting guidance for Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, with help diagnosing high CPU, memory, IOPS, temporary files, and autovacuum issues. Better visibility into bottlenecks can help teams avoid overprovisioning.

That’s useful when you’re trying to understand whether a workload really needs more resources or just better tuning. Clearer diagnostics can save money by making capacity decisions more precise.

Google Cloud also expanded observability tooling with new Cloud Observability bucket commands and Terraform support for the Observability API. Those updates improve operational visibility and support governance for cost-aware cloud operations.
