Amazon ECS just added zone-aware routing to Service Connect, and it’s enabled by default in all commercial Regions. The new behavior prefers service-to-service traffic within the same Availability Zone, which helps reduce cross-AZ data transfer.

OpenSearch Gets a Big Boost for Cheaper Log Analytics

Amazon OpenSearch Service now has an engine mode tuned for log analytics, and AWS says it can deliver up to 4x better price-performance. It also brings up to 70% lower storage through columnar storage, 2x ingestion throughput, and 2x faster analytical queries.

AWS also says the engine is available across 12 global Regions at no additional charge, which makes it easier to adopt without adding a new line item.

CloudWatch Logs Now Adds Resource Tags at Ingestion

Amazon CloudWatch Logs can now enrich log events with AWS resource tags as they come in. Tags like team, cost center, and environment show up right away, so you can filter and analyze logs without changing your instrumentation.

That’s especially helpful for chargeback and showback work. Instead of stitching tags in later with custom pipelines, teams get cleaner cost-allocation data from the start.

S3 Access Logs Are Easier to Query and Analyze

Amazon S3 can now send server access logs directly to CloudWatch Logs and also mirror them to Amazon S3 Tables at no additional storage cost. That makes logs easier to query, alarm on, and aggregate.

CloudFormation/CDK Express Mode Speeds Up Deployments

AWS CloudFormation and CDK express mode now finishes stack operations sooner, instead of waiting for long stabilization periods after configuration is applied. AWS says this can make deployments up to 4x faster.
