A stronger cost management toolkit for Azure workloads

Azure Cosmos DB now has a public preview cost estimator that lets you model throughput, storage, regions, and capacity modes before provisioning. It’s designed to help teams forecast costs and choose deployments that balance performance and spend.

Azure made Global Provisioned Throughput reservations region-agnostic, so a single reservation can apply across regions for Global PTU deployments. That improves reservation utilization and supports better cross-region cost optimization.

New VM families add more sizing choices for performance and cost

Azure introduced Cobalt 200 Arm-based VM families in preview, including Dpsv7, Dplsv7, Epsv7, Mpsv4, and Lpsv5. The update calls out improved performance and efficiency over the prior generation.

Azure also added Lasv5 and Laosv5 storage-optimized VMs in private preview, built on 5th Gen AMD EPYC. These instances are aimed at storage-intensive workloads and offer higher disk capacity, throughput, and I/O.

Operations updates that can reduce overhead

Managed system node pools in AKS Automatic are now generally available. Azure says the platform provisions and operates the system node pools, which reduces customer operational overhead and helps maintain efficient, resilient cluster capacity.

Automatic OS image upgrades for VMSS Flexible Orchestration are now in public preview. The update is meant to simplify fleet-wide OS updates and reduce operational overhead and maintenance costs.

Monitoring improvements that help with resource-level cost analysis

Azure Monitor now offers OpenTelemetry metrics and visualizations for Azure VMs and Arc Servers in general availability. The update unifies monitoring and improves resource-level observability.
